Oneta Wylie
Malloy & Son Funeral Home

Oneta Wylie, 86, of Galveston, passed away Sunday, September 9, 2007, at Triumph Hospital in Webster, Texas.

 

Funeral service will be 2:00 pm, Wednesday, September 12th, at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. David Green and Rev. John Taylor officiating.  Graveside services will be at Memory Gardens in Baytown.

 

Oneta was born September 5, 1921, in Grapeland, Texas.  She was a longtime resident of Baytown and served as the pianist for the First Baptist Church there for many years.  In the late 1970’s, Oneta received her Doctorate in Psychology from Texas A&M University and moved to Galveston where she worked in private practice until her retirement in 2003.  A talented musician, Oneta served as the organist at First Presbyterian Church in Galveston for many years, and she also played the violin and piano.  She was named in Who’s Who of American Women.

 

Oneta was preceded in death by her son, Pat Wylie; and husband, Keith Dutson. 

 

She is survived by her daughter, Beth Wylie; sister, Bernadine Lumpkin; brother, John Taylor and wife, Amelia; and numerous nieces and nephews.

 

Memorials may be made to the Pat Wylie Scholarship Fund at Lee Junior College in Baytown, P O Box 818, Baytown, TX 77522-0818.
