Mrs. Marcelita Guerra passed from this life Friday morning, September 14, 2007, in Texas City.
Born January 31, 1929 in Vernon, Texas, Mrs. Guerra had moved to Texas City two years ago after spending over 50 years in Hitchcock. She was homemaker and member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church where she had been active in the Guadalupanas. Mrs. Guerra enjoyed crafts, crocheting, sewing, gardening and especially loved cooking. She will lovingly remembered as a strong, family oriented person who was also kind and gentle to everyone.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Carmen “Chino†Guerra; parents, Jose and Concepcion (Lopez) Gil; brother, Nicholas Gil; sister, Concepcion Martinez and son-in-law, Frank Jackson.
Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Daniel G. and Bobbie Guerra of Kyle, Reuben G. and Becky Guerra of Pearland; daughter, Rose Ann Jackson of Texas City; sisters, Guadalupe Baca of Houston, Esmeralda Tristan of Channelview, Helen Johansen of Redmond, Oregon; grandchildren, Erica Rocha, Jessica and Ray Fleener, Ryan Jackson, Tony Guerra; great-grandchildren, Valerie, Aubrey and Casey Fleener.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Monday, September 17, 2007, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Reverend John Kappe, Celebrant. Interment will follow at Grace Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Hayes Funeral Home.
Casketbearers will be Dan Guerra, Ruben Gonzalez, Armando Martinez, Chris Tristan, John Tristan and Joseph Tristan. Honorary Bearer will be Ray Fleener.
Friends may call from 5 - 8 p.m. Sunday at Hayes Funeral Home, 10412 Highway 6, (409) 925-3501. A Vigil service will begin at 6:30 p.m. conducted by Sister Mary Anne Hollmann followed by the Rosary recited by the Guadalupanas.
