Galveston – Philip John Bertolino, 80, passed away on Monday September 24, 2007 at his home. Visitation will be held at 5:00 PM, followed by a rosary at 6:00 PM, on Monday October 1st, 2007 at Malloy & Son Funeral Home, 3028 Broadway, Galveston, Texas. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday October 2nd at Malloy & Son Funeral Home with burial to follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery, 2505 65th Street, Galveston, Texas. Philip and his twin brother George Paul were born November 9, 1926 to Charles and Mabel Bertolino in Galveston, Texas. Philip, known as “LuLu” to family and friends was preceded in death by his father, Charles (Carmelo) Bertolino; mother, Mabel Bertolino; brothers, Salvador “Big Boy” Bertolino, Joseph “Peachie” Bertolino, Frank Bertolino, Charles “Charlie Boy” Bertolino, George Bertolino, and Henry Bertolino; Sisters, Rosalie Bertolino Gondeson, Theresa Bertolino, Maybelle Bertolino, Josephine Bertolino Wilson, and Marie Bertolino Smith. Philip is survived by his son, Steven Garza; brother Edward Bertolino; and sisters Christine Bertolino Welsh, and Ruby Bertolino Roberts. Philip was a lifeguard on Galveston’s beaches for many years, and could be found many evenings sitting on Seawall Boulevard enjoying the scenery. Philip was also an avid fisherman, carpenter and handyman.
