Sixth Annual Festival of Lights

Festive sights and sounds will fill Moody Gardens®  at the sixth annual Festival of Lights November 17 through January 5.

This whimsical celebration will kick off the holiday season on November 17, with Santa Claus parachuting in to switch on the lights. Transforming its lush tropical garden setting into a winter wonderland, Moody Gardens®  will be adorned with more than a million twinkling lights and over one hundred light displays featuring a variety of scenes.

This year’s light trail will be longer, brighter, and more festive than ever before, with dozens of new displays and a brand new state-of-the-art sound system that will fill the night air with sounds and music of the season coordinated with the light displays.

The Festival of Lights is celebrated Thursday through Sunday November 17 through December 16, and daily beginning December 17. Drawing more than 60,000 people each year, Moody Gardens® Festival of Lights has become a holiday favorite for families near and far.

Visitors with an artistic flair can enter the Share Your Holiday Memories contest to win an encounter with a real penguin at the Moody Gardens® Aquarium. They may bring a camera or camcorder to the Festival of Lights, capture a favorite moment with family or friends, and upload the entry to  Weekly winners will be featured on the website as the Festival of Lights Web Clip of the Week. Submission guidelines are detailed on the website.

In addition to the path of light displays, guest can strap on a pair of skates and glide across the ice at the Outdoor Ice Rink at Moody Gardens®. Indoors, visitors can take pictures with Santa or even gaze upon a giant poinsettia tree. The IMAX® 3D Theater will feature a variety of holiday-themed films during the Festival of Lights including Santa vs. the Snowman 3D, Nutcracker 3D and Polar Express 3D. At the Ridefilm theater, guests can buckle up their seatbelts and experience the thrills of one or both of two films, Santa’s Late and Glacier Run. Polar Express will also be showing in the 4D theater, where exciting special effects like real snow will tickle the audience from head to toe.

The Garden Restaurant will feature a delectable holiday buffet, offered from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Group rates of $20 per person are also available for groups of 20 or more, and include admission to Festival of Lights and the holiday buffet.

Special Festival of Lights packages are also available at the Moody Gardens® Hotel. Rates range from $139 to $199 per night. The packages include a room for two and two Festival of Lights tickets. Family Packages are available at the hotel from December 20 through December 30. The Family Package includes a room for four and four Festival of Lights tickets, plus a holiday character breakfast for four, plush toys and a turn-down with Christmas stocking for the kids. While staying at the hotel, kids can participate in a variety of fun, themed activities like decorating picture frames, making ornaments, and frosting cookies at Santa’s Workshop, located on the second floor.  Sunny the Penguin and Rowdy the Christmas Clown promise to hang out with the kids again, painting faces and creating balloon animals.

Admission into the Festival of Lights is $5.95, and evening tickets to additional attractions including the Rainforest Pyramid®, holiday IMAX 3D® film, holiday Ridefilm, Outdoor Ice Rink and Colonel Paddlewheel Boat, can be purchased for only $4.00 each with the purchase of a Festival of Lights ticket.
