Telemedicine Conference in Galveston
News Release
Monday, October 29, 2007
GALVESTON, Texas — The emerging field of telemedicine businesses will be the top topic at a national forum scheduled in Galveston.
The two-day forum, “Mainstreaming Telemedicine, Understanding Sustained Operations,” will be at the Galveston Island Convention Center at the San Luis Resort beginning Nov. 12.
The AT&T Center for Telehealth Research and Policy at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston is presenting the conference. The center is a division of the UTMB Electronic Health Network.
UTMB this year formed a partnership with Sanders Morris Harris Group Inc., a Houston private equity company to start NuPhysicia LLC, to use UTMB’s expertise to operate telemedicine clinical programs. Drs. Glenn Hammack, Oscar Boultinghouse and Michael Davis, of UTMB’s EHN, are scheduled to speak at the conference.
Other speakers scheduled include Dr. Mark Blatt of Intel Digital Health Group, Nicholas Augustinos of Cisco Systems Inc., Sunil Joshi of Wellpoint and Jonathan Linkous of the American Telemedicine Association.
Topics to be discussed include updates on the state and business of telemedicine, public policy discussions and the economic impact of the technology.
During the conference, the Center for Information Technology Leadership will release a report, “The Value of Provider-to-Provider Telehealth Technologies.”
