Herbert Lee Richter, Jr.
Carnes Brothers Funeral Home
Herbert Lee Richter, Jr., age 69, of Galveston entered eternal rest, Tuesday, November 6, 2007 at his residence in Galveston. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, November 9, 2007 at Carnes Brothers Funeral Home with the Reverend Brad Stagg officiating.
Herb was born January 20, 1938 in Galveston, Texas to Herbert Lee Richter, Sr. and Ida Louise Tully Richter. He was a 1956 graduate of Ball High School where he loved playing in the Band. He spent 4 years at the University of Texas at Austin where he continued to play his trombone in the UT Band. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army where he played in the Army Band. For many years he played with Danny Smith and in recent years was a part of the Pee Wee Bowen Band until illness prevented him from playing. To say that Herb loved music would be an under statement. He was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church and he enjoyed fishing.
Preceded in death by his parents Herbert is survived by his sons, Patrick Scott Richter and wife Jennifer of Austin, and Michael Kevin Richter of Houston; step son, Ash Ayers and wife Rebecca of Galveston; aunts, Nell Louise Stewart of Fort Worth, and Lillian Reynolds of Atlanta, Georgia; grandchildren, Abigail, Samuel and Benjamin Richter all of Austin, and numerous other relatives and many friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the charity of your choice.
