Floyd Alton Simmons, Sr.

Floyd Alton Simmons, Sr., 79, peacefully passed from this life on earth on November 8, 2007 at John Sealy Hospital in Galveston, Texas. A rosary will be recited at 10:00 am, Monday, November 12, 2007 with a funeral mass to follow with Father Paul Banet celebrant, at Holy Rosary Catholic Chuurch, 1420 - 31st Street in Galveston, Texas. Graveside services will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive visitors at 9:00 am, Monday at the church until time for the Rosary to be recited.
Floyd was born on August 13, 1928 to Simon Simmons and Florida Alexander Simmons in St. Martinville, Louisiana. He served in the U. S. Army during the Korean Conflict spending 1 1/2 years there. He earned his honorable discharge with the rank of Corporal after 6 years of service. He returned to civilian life and somewhere along the way he met and married the love of his life, Gladys Washington, on April 30, 1949. He loved to fish and was proud to have been a boilermaker at Todd’s Shipyard in Galveston. He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church.
Preceded in death by his parents, Floyd is survived by his devoted wife of 58 years, Gladys Simmons, son, Floyd A. Simmons, Jr. and his daughter, Doris Marie Simmons all of Galveston; 1 brother; 2 sisters; grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be friends of the family.
