The 7th Annual Las Posada, Bethlehem on the Boardwalk, Christmas Tree Lighting and 2nd Lighted Christmas Parade will take place on Saturday, December 8 at 5:00 p.m.
Our Traditional: Las Posada (Inn) practiced by the Hispanic culture promises to capture your breath as the re-enactment of the birth of Christ is presented to the community. This ancient celebration is sponsored by the Hispanic Cultural and Educational Center.
The community is encouraged to meet in downtown Port Arthur to participate in the candlelight procession led by a Roman soldier on horseback. Costumed angels will lead Mary and Joseph to Bethlehem where they will make stops in their search for lodging.
The Bethlehem on the Boardwalk, a professional performance with lights and staging will be put on with the help of Sam Houston Elementary’s 4th Grade Choir and St. Catherine’s Catholic School children’s choir and numerous other cast members and volunteers as soon as the procession arrives at the Boardwalk. A manger scene has been constructed by volunteers, along with live animals that will have you feel the true spirit of the holiday season.
The 2nd Lighted Christmas Parade will follow the Posada and play. “We want trucks, boats, flat beds, golf carts and anything on two wheels to participate and throw candy or stuffed animals to the children. This is a family event for all of us!”, says Maria Block, producer of the holiday event.
