Manuela “Meme” Castro MartinezManuela “Meme” Castro Martinez, a resident of the Stockdale Nursing Center for the past four years passed away Monday, December 24, 2007 at the age of 93 years, 6 months and 24 days in Stockdale, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, December 29, 2007 at St. Mary’s Cathedral Basillica with Father Gerald Lewis, S.V.D.  celebrant. Graveside services will follow at Lakeview Cemetery in Galveston where she will be laid to rest next to her husband . The family will receive visitors at Carnes Brothers Funeral Home from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Friday with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 pm.

Manuela was born May 20, 1914 in Cameron, Texas to Pedro and Antonia Moreno Castro. After moving to Galveston, she was married to Fidel G. Martinez on June 4, 1932. Manuela was a devout Catholic, known to walk every Monday thru Friday for Mass at St. Mary’s Cathedral Basillica when she lived at Galveston Gulf Breeze Apartments. She was an excellent cook providing for her family and freinds with outstanding meals. She was a cook by trade and used her talents at home.

Preceded in death by her parents, husband of 43 years, son, Gonzalo (Joe) Martinez, grandson, James P. Ramirez, son-in-law, Albert Ramirez, four brothers and two sisters; Manuela is survived by her daughter, Rosalee McCoy and husband Jimmy of Stockdale; daughter-in-law Alice of Covina, California; granddaughter, Arlene Madrid and husband, David of Covina, California; grandsons, Albert Ramirez and wife Julie of Santa Fe, Texas and Monte Ramirez and wife, Patricia of Littleton, Colorado;  great granddaughters Ashley Ramirez Madden of Santa Fe, Texas, Brooke Rameriz of Santa Fe, Texas, Gina Fuentes of Covina California, Marryssa Ramirez of Littleton, Colorado, great grandson, Jon Conaway of Santa Fe, Texas and David Madrid of Covina, California; great great grand daughters, Isabel Fuentes and Maya Fuentes of Covina, California and Jayle Madden of Santa Fe, Texas; two great great grandsons Kayden Madden of Santa Fe and Tristan Conaway of Santa Fe; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers will be members of the family.
