GALVESTON ISLAND, TX. – The Park Board of Trustees and twelve Mardi Gras krewes will unveil their official Mardi Gras! Galveston 2008 posters on Wednesday, January 9, 6 – 8 PM, at the Tremont House, 2300 Mechanic St. The public is invited to attend.
Mardi Gras! Galveston, January 25 – February 5, now one of Texas’ largest events, will feature 11 parades and more than 50 activities over two weekends. Offering fun for kids of all ages, activities will include a beachfront carnival, pageants, costume contests, galas and processionals. The event has something for kids of all ages. With routes including the Seawall and downtown, parades will range from elaborate day and nighttime spectacles to a children’s, as well as a pet parade. The complete Mardi Gras schedule of events will be distributed at the poster unveiling event and will be available, free of charge, at numerous locations on the Island.
The official Mardi Gras! Galveston 2008 poster, designed by artist Hanna Case, was chosen from entries submitted to and exhibited this summer at the Galveston Art League Gallery on Postoffice St. The major requirement was that the entry depict a traditional Mardi Gras image. A limited number of signed and numbered posters will be available for sale at the unveiling. The posters are 24 x 36 inches and sell for $20 each. There is no fee to attend the poster unveiling reception.
