Mamie Ellen Megna
J. Levy & Termini Funeral Home
Mamie Ellen Megna, age 101 died on January 2, 2008. She was born in Galveston, Texas on December 15, 1906, the youngest of five children born to Marshall and Jenny McNeel.
Ellen spent most of her life in Galveston, moving to San Antonio in 1999 to be nearer to her family. She was employed for ten years by E.S. Levy & Co in retail sales and for fifteen years in the UTMB Insurance Department, retiring in 1977.
In addition to her parents, Ellen was predeceased by brothers Charles McNeel and Marshall McNeel, Jr and sisters Mary Evers and Jeanne Porretto.
She is survived by sons John J. Schroeder and wife Betty of Lago Vista, TX, Joseph M. Megna and wife Joan of San Antonio, TX; grandson Dr. Christopher Megna, of San Antonio; granddaughters, Cathy Schroeder of San Rafael, CA, Nancy Schroeder of Topsail, NC. and Marcie Blangiardo of San Antonio; great-granddaughters Kaylee Megna, Kristen Megna and Gabriella Blangiardo all of San Antonio; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Ellen was a longtime member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Galveston.
The family of Mrs. Megna would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Village Oaks Retirement Home in San Antonio for the kind and loving care they gave to Ellen during the last four years.
Visitation will be held at J. Levy & Termini Funeral Home on Sunday, January 6, 2008 from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., with a Rosary to begin at 7:00 P.M. Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, January 7, 2008 at 10:00 A.M. at J. Levy & Termini Funeral Home, with Deacon Robert Standridge officiating. Interment will follow at Galveston Memorial Park Cemetery in Hitchcock, Texas.
If anyone desires, memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Galveston, or to a charity of your choice.
