Jefferson County Primary Elections
by Jim Guidry
Friday, January 04, 2008

Jefferson County Sheriff Mitch Woods and Tax Assessor-Collector Miriam Johnson, Democrats, drew no opponents in their primary, and no Republicans or Libertarians have filed for those offices, thus they are effectively reelected.   Precinct 1 Commissioner Eddie Arnold, a Republican, is also unopposed and assured of reelection.

Six Democratic candidates and one Libertarian candidate have filed to run for County Commissioner Precinct 3.  The Democrats are Mark Bernard, Michael "Shane" Sinegal, Raymond Johnson, Alma Cantu, Jimmy Dike and Thurman Bartie.  The Libertarian is Kevin R. McCarthy.  He is the only Libertarian running for a Jefferson County office.

District court judges James Gary Sanderson and Milton Gunn Shuffield, Justice of the Peace Ken Dollinger, and Constables Charlie Wiggins and Jeff Greenway are all running unopposed in the Democratic Primary and have no Republican opponents.

Precinct 2 Constable Leonard Rocaforte is opposed by Darren Johnson in the Democratic Primary; and Precinct 6 Constable Eddie J. Collins is opposed by Joseph Stevenson.  Neither has a Republican opponent.
