Rogelio Diaz, Sr.

Rogelio “Roger” Diaz, Sr.Rogelio “Roger” Diaz, Sr, 51, passed from this life on Monday, January 14, 2008, in Texas City, TX. He was born September 18, 1956, in Galveston, TX.  He had been a resident of Texas City, TX for 24 years, but was raised in Galveston.

Roger graduated from Ball High School in 1974 and received his Associates Degree in Applied Science in Fire Technology in 1992 from Galveston Community College . He was a Corporal in the United States Marine Corps where he served from 1974 to 1976. He retired from the Galveston Fire Department in 2006 after 22 years of service. During his time with the Fire Department he served as secretary for the National Firefighters Assoc. Local #571. He was a member of several organizations such as the Boys Club of Galveston, TX where he served on the Advisory Committee and Board of Directors, L.U.L.A.C Council #151 and #4433, and on the Coastal Community Federal Credit Union, Galveston , TX . where he served on the Credit Committee and currently served on the Board of Directors.

Roger loved being a Fire Fighter helping those in need and saving lives. He also loved going to see his granddaughter Marissa play softball and soccer and watching the Dallas Cowboys with his wife and two sons. His many interests included fishing, listening to music, dancing, traveling, practical jokes, and he loved to bar-be-cue where he was famous for his tender ribs. He was very proud that both of his sons followed in his footsteps serving their country recently in Iraq as members of the U. S. Marine Corps. Above all, Roger loved spending time with his family and friends including his Friday lunches with his Fire Fighter friends. Roger was a loving son, grandson, nephew, brother, proud husband, father and grandfather, cousin, uncle and friend.

Roger was preceded in death by his grandmother, Angelina Diaz and his two uncles, Louis Diaz and Jesse Diaz Sr.

He is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Martha Diaz; sons, Rogelio Jr and Louis Manuel; granddaughter Marissa Renee`; his parents Ernestina and Daniel Diaz Sr.; sister Dolores (John) Eliaz.; brothers Daniel “Bo” Jr. and Mario Diaz; mother-in-law Olga Rios; brothers-in-law Jose L. Jaramillo, Jesus A. Soto, and George M. Soto; sister-in-law Norma L. Cruz; nieces and nephews and a host of many loving relatives and friends.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, January 17, 2008, from 4-7 PM in the Chapel of Carnes Funeral Home, 3100 Gulf Freeway, Texas City , TX with a Rosary at 7 PM led by Deacon Joe Hensley. It was Roger’s wishes that he be cremated.

The family expressed special thanks to the staff of DeVida Dialysis and to his many friends in the Galveston Fire Department for their devoted support.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Coastal Community Federal Credit Union in Galveston, TX.
