Lola Faye Smith

Lola Faye SmithLola Faye Smith, 66, received her reward of eternal rest on Wednesday, January 16, 2008, at the Oakmont Care Center of Humble, Texas.

Lola was born January 31, 1941, in San Augustine County, Texas to Reuben and Thelma Taylor. She was baptized at an early age at Pisgah Baptist Church. Lola attended Lincoln Elementary and High School and graduated in 1960. Desiring to further her education Lola moved to Galveston and began studies that led to a career at John Sealy Hospital until 1995 when she retired for medical reasons. Lola met Edward Smith, Sr. and their courtship led to marriage in 1965 and yielded one son, Edward, Smith, Jr..
 
Lola was a member of Mt Pilgrim Baptist Church for over 30 years, where she faithfully song in the choir and served with the Willing Workers Ministry. She continued to worship regularly until illness prevented her participation.

Lola was preceded in death by her husband in 1976. She is survived by her parents, Reuben and Thelma Taylor of Humble, TX;  her son, Edward Smith, Jr. of Galveston; sister, Bettie Marie Teel of Los Angeles, CA; brothers and sisters in law, Robert and Linda Taylor of Humble, TX; Jessie and Imogene Taylor of Texas City, TX, and Jeffery O’Neal and Lottie Taylor of Houston, TX; granddaughter, Emani; eight nieces and nephews; 12 grandnieces and nephews; seven aunts and uncles; scores of cousins and friends and two special longtime friends, Gloria Ellisor and Estella Shipp.
Lola was a kind, loving caring and generous woman who exemplified the true meaning of the word “Christian” in all aspect of her life. She was loved deeply by her family who provided care for her many years during her illness. Lola will be missed by all who were blessed to have known, loved and been loved by her.

A service celebrating her life will be held on Wednesday, January 23, 2008, at 11:00 A.M. at the Mt Pilgrim Baptist Church, 3215 Broadway, with Pastor Lorenzo Williams, officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the service beginning at 10AM on Wednesday. She will be laid to rest in Lakeview Cemetery.
