Philadelphia Mummers Perform at Mardi Gras! Galveston
The famous Philadelphia Mummers will return to Mardi Gras! Galveston 2008 in full regalia ready to perform for their Texas fans.
One of the most popular participants of Galveston's annual celebration, the Mummers are the main attraction to the pre-Lenten festivities that dominate the Island January 25 through February 5. Resplendent in ornate costumes, the group of strings, banjos and horns are led by String Band Hall of Famer Capt. Bob Shannon, a 50 year veteran of the famous international performing organization.
Forty Five Mummers will lead off the Mardi Gras festivities in Galveston, marching and performing in parades and their own processional as Galveston welcomes them to the Island. An event not to be missed, their performance is an Island tradition for locals and Mummers alike. Their performances are free to the public, and revelers are invited to dance along.
Visitors are encouraged to make hotel reservations now for each weekend, and are advised to indulge in fine Gulf Coast dining, shopping, and to enjoy world class attractions between parades. For more information and complete schedule of activities go to www.mardigrasgalveston.com.
