Vesta “Mammi” Roemer RutledgeVesta “Mammi” Roemer Rutledge, age 94, of Galveston passed away, Monday, January 21, 2008, at Gulf Health Care Center in Galveston. Graveside services are 12:00 noon Friday, January 25, 2008 at the Elgin City Cemetery under the direction of Carnes Brothers Funeral Home of Galveston.

Vesta was born April 28, 1913 in Elgin, Texas to Emil and Lillie Leibold Roemer. She graduated from Elgin High School and attended San Marcos College. Vesta had many passions just to name a few were painting, gardening, and cooking. She had a special place in her heart for animals of all kinds, and people, she never knew a stranger. She was a Christian lady of the Baptist faith.  With all of her interest, her family remained number one on her list. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, and grandmother always giving her love to her family.

Mammi was preceded in death by her parents; husband, M.C. Rutledge; brothers, Merle, Howard and Erwin Roemer, and her beloved daughter, Billie Vesta Gartman. Survivors include a sister, Lillian Roemer Fisher of Elgin; granddaughter, Kaylin Gartman Kolenovsky and husband Eddie and a great grandson, Chris Broussard and Heather McRay all of Galveston; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Pallbearers are Chris Broussard, Eddie Kolenovsky, Flint Fisher, Danny Ray Fisher, Lance Fisher, and Steve Akins.

Memorials may be sent to your local Animal Shelter or a charity of your choice.
