Mrs. Mary Esther Murphy passed from this life Tuesday morning, January 22, 2008, in Texas City.
Born January 20, 1914 in Danville, IL, Mrs. Murphy had been a resident of Santa Fe for 25 years, previously of Nassau Bay and Danville, IL. She had been employed as a supervisor and telephone operator with AT & T, formerly Illinois Bell, for over 30 years, had been the manager of Colony Oak Bay in Nassau Bay for 13 years, and as a journalist had written for the Illinois Bell News and the Colony Oak Bay Newsletter. Mrs. Murphy was of the Catholic faith, an avid golfer, loved the outdoors and enjoyed needlepoint.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Norma Jean O’Rourke; parents, Thomas and Mary Alice (Hilliard) Turner and brother, Bud Turner.
Survivors include her son-in-law, Thomas P. O’Rourke of Santa Fe; grandson, Donald Scott Daly and wife, Teresa Anne of Santa Fe; granddaughter, Mary Alisa Patrick and husband, Frederick of Santa Fe; great-grandchildren, Jason Daly, Patrick Daly, Aaron Daly, Melanie Munoz, Thomas Patrick, Taylor Patrick, Tiffany Patrick; great-grandchild, Shane Daly; sister, Ann Pederson and husband, Pete of California.
A private cremation will be conducted under the direction of Hayes Funeral Home.
