Mike Nick Emmite
Carnes Brothers Funeral Home

Mike Nick EmmiteMike Nick Emmite, 82, of Galveston, passed away on Saturday, January 26, 2008 at John Sealy Hospital in Galveston, Texas after a short battle with cancer. Funeral services will be held 10:00 am Wednesday, January 30, 2008 at  Carnes Brothers Funeral Home with the Reverend Ken Rutherford, Jr. officiating.  Graveside services with Military Honors to follow at Grace Memorial Park in Hitchcock, Texas, under the auspices of Harmony Lodge # 6, AF & AM. Visitation will be held at Carnes Brothers Funeral Home, 1201 Tremont, in Galveston on Tuesday, January 29, 2008 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

Born in Dickinson, Texas on July 21, 1925 to Salvatore and Annie Emmite, Mike was the second of 5 children, Joseph, Mike, Nancy, Frank, and Anthony.  Mike was preceded in death by his father, mother, & sister as well as two sons Michael “Nick” Emmite and Vincent “Gary” Emmite.

Mike received an Honorable Discharge from the US Army Infantry as a corporal in 1947 after serving his country in WWII.  He was employed by Texas Bus Lines as a motor coach operator from June 25, 1963 until his retirement on August 14, 1975 after having driven over 1,000,000 miles without an incident, proving him to be an excellent operator and employee.  Mike was a member of the, Harmony Masonic Lodge # 6 AF & AM, and the Scottish Right Bodies as a Master Mason. He worked many years in the funeral industry for Service Corporation International at J. Levy and Brothers Funeral Directors and at the time of his passing, he was employed by Carnes Brothers Funeral Home.  Mike held numerous positions throughout his life with other reputable businesses in Galveston and surrounding areas.

Mike’s surviving children are Diane Hensley and husband Burl and Camille Emmite.  Surviving stepchildren are Vicki Holaday and husband Walter, Kenny Rutherford and wife Grace,  Jenneth Bolling and husband Laval, Doug Rutherford and wife Lisa, John “Buck” Rutherford, and dear to Mike, former daughter-n-law Maria Drossos.  Mike is also survived by his “Loving Wife” Bettye Jean Rutherford Emmite who remained by his side for forty-seven years; his brothers, Joseph and wife Lena Rose Emmite, Frank and wife Sue Emmite, and Anthony Emmite, numerous, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.  Mike is also survived by twenty-one grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren.

Pallbearers:  Patrick O’Neal, Jr., John M. Rutherford, Darron O’Neal, Robert Bolling, Michael Rutherford, Mitchell Rutherford, Christopher Rutherford.  Honorary Pallbearers:  Douglas Rutherford, Jr., and Glenn Williams.
