Elsie Mae Walker
Carnes Brothers Funeral Home

Elsie Mae WalkerElsie Mae Walker, age 68, of Galveston passed away, Tuesday, January 29, 2008, at her residence in Galveston. Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Saturday, February 2, 2008 at Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church in Galveston, Reverend Lorenzo Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeview Cemetery in Galveston under the direction of Carnes Brothers Funeral Home of Galveston. Visitation will begin at 9:00 am Saturday at the church.

Elsie was born February 10, 1939 in Rosa, Louisiana to John Moore and Violet Elmore Moore. She moved to Galveston while in the 3rd grade and graduated from Central High School with the class of 1958. She worked in the animal research department at UTMB under Dr. Poth for over 15 years before working at Central Middle school. In 1979 she opened “Mom’s Oleander Café”, on 37th and Church until her illness prevented her from working. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, and grandmother who enjoyed cooking for her family and laughing with them, always giving her love to her family.

Elsie was preceded in death by her Father, John Moore and mother, Violet Aaron; step father, Lester Aaron; uncle, John Elmore; sister, Susie Payne; husband, Genoice Walker, Sr.; and grandson, Todd Joseph Hopkins.

Survivors include 5 children, Genoice Walker, Jr. and wife Carla of Austin, Sandra O’Neal and husband Philip of Texas City, Russell Walker, Debra Greene, and John Michael Walker all of Galveston; sisters, Mary Perry, Ann Brown and husband Edward, and Armede Spiller and husband Edward all of Galveston; brother, Charles Elmore and wife Marie of Beaumont, 11 grandchildren, Jasmine Walker, Tiffany Davis, Danielle Greene, Torrie Walker, Kevin Davis, Kenneth Davis, Krissy Walker, Michael Walker, Jr., Krystal Strother, and Eddie Walker; great grandchildren, Genoice Walker, III, Fourest Mills, IV, and Derrick Edison, II ; special friend, Thelma Neal; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Pallbearers are William Holmes, David O’Neal, Sam Collins, Clifford O’Neal, Lewis Walker, Jr. and Chris Williams. Honorary pallbearers are Kevin Davis and Kenneth Davis.

Special thanks to UTMB ER Nurses, Alex Cruz, and Lee Martinez, MICU Department, Jill, Fernando, Cathy, Dr. Sharma, Dr. Tong and the AMED Hospice.
