Brazoria County
Pearland City Council
by Garrett Bryce
Tuesday, February 12, 2008

Pearland City Council on Monday voted to authorize a design build contract for construction of a public safety facility.

The city council voted to award a bid for construction of an aquatic playground at Pearland's Centennial Park.

The city council voted 3-1, with Felicia Kyle opposed, in favor of a proposed ordinance to issue a conditional use permit to allow a "gaming establishment" on a 13.892 acre tract near Highway 35 and Hastings Cannon Road. However, the item required a three-fourth "super majority" vote as it was being considered on an emergency basis; thus it failed.

An item to issue a conditional use permit allowing for a "gaming establishment" for a lot located along Broadway and Harkey Road was pulled by the owner of the property. It will be discussed on a future agenda.

No action was taken on an executive session item regarding sale, lease or purchase of city facilities.

All other items were approved. All votes were unanimous with Woody Owens absent from the meeting.
