Emmie Wimberly Jackson

Emmie Wimberly JacksonEmmie Wimberly Jackson, 91, entered into eternal rest after answering the call of her Heavenly Father on Thursday, February 28, 2008, at her daughter’s home in LaMarque.  She was born on April 16, 1916 in Bienville, Louisiana to the late Earl and Maggie Bryant Wimberly. 
           
Emmie was educated in the Bienvielle Parish School District in Arcadia, Louisiana.  On February 19, 1937, Emmie Wimberly married Rev. Watkins J. Jackson and to this union they were blessed with ten children. She and her family moved to Galveston in 1947. She was a seamstress by trade and known for the beautiful hats she made.  She worked many years at Central Daycare; Director for 20 years at Yeager Children’s Home where she was Mama Emmie to many children in Galveston.  She was a member of Jerusalem Baptist Church under the leadership of her husband, Rev. W.J. Jackson. Later she joined Live Oak Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. George W. Barron and Rev. Byron Williams until 1997 when she moved back to Louisiana. Upon moving to Arcadia, she joined the New Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church, with Rev. Noah Banks serving as pastor.
           
Emmie is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Rev. Watkins Jackson, Sr., sons, James Monroe Jackson, Bobbie Jackson, and Rev. Watkins Jackson, Jr.; grandson, Rudy Pickney; great-great grandson, Christopher Boyd, Jr.; brothers, Malvin Wimberly, Leroy Wimberly and Earl Wimberly, Jr; sisters, Fern Radin, Lessie Mason, Lottie Newby, Doreatha Hill and Rosetta Wade.
           
Her memory will forever linger in the hearts of her children, sons, Billy Wade Jackson and Eddie Ray Jackson (Dot) of Galveston, Len Muhammad (Linda) of Houston, Phillip Jackson of Shreveport, LA; daughters, Erma Boyd-Nelson and Shirley Guyton of LaMarque, Alma Holmes of Arcadia, LA; daughter-in-law, Velmarene Jackson of Galveston; sisters, Clytie Washington of Galveston and Lornette Alexander of Detroit, MI; 38 grandchildren, Sheryle L. Jackson, Janice Watson, Johnny Boyd (Marissa), Vanessa Jones (Nate), Kimberly Boyd, Anthony Boyd (Lagaya), Valerie Green, Byron Jackson (Jennifer), Barbara Jackson, Traci Holmes, Ayodele Odiduro (Sergie), William Holmes, III, Nicole Holmes, Lisa Blakely, LaKesha Blakely, Jarrod Blakely, Darold Blakely (Renee), Angela Taylor, Lisa Jackson, Watkins Jackson, IV (Kandice), Sherita Fontenot (Theo), Kevin Jackson (Clois), Derrick Jackson, Felicia Jackson,  Billy Jackson, (Carl), Nicholas Jackson, Nicole Jackson, Robert Jackson, Jacenette Fields, Kareem Donnie, and Dierre Donnie; 72 great grandchildren, and 35 great- great grandchildren; aunt, Hazel Duty and uncle, Eugene Bryant; sister-in-laws,Lisa Walker, Marie Washington and Lynn Smith;  numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.  Special thanks to Odyssey Hospice of Louisiana & Texas, especially her nurses, Mary & Nora. 
  
Visitation will be held from 4-7:00 p.m. on Monday, March 3rd at E.R. Johnson Family Mortuary.  A service celebrating her life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 4, 2008, at Jerusalem Baptist Church with Pastor A.S. Johnson officiating.   Burial will follow at Mainland Memorial Cemetery, Hitchcock, TX.
