Oliver Grimes, 50, departed this life on Sunday, March 9, 2008, at his residence.
Oliver was born August 3, 1947, in Galveston to Oliver and Geneva Grimes. He received his formal education in the Galveston school district and was a 1967 graduate of Central High School. He was drafted into the U S Army during the Vietnam War, serving as a military operator and was honorable discharged. He was employed at Todd Shipyard and the Grain Elevator for many years until his health began to fail.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Mamie Fowler, Jessie Fowler, Bertha Page, and Rev. Oliver Grimes; and many of his precious loved ones.
He leaves to cherish memories, a loving wife, Mary Grimes; dedicated parents, Oliver and Geneva Grimes; devoted children, Tonya Hambric, Ishasia Love Murphy (Charlie), Derrick Hambric (Rhonda); Jason Hambric; Olivia Love, and Jerrold Love (Brandy); sisters, Genevie Compton, Karen Grimes, Sharon Haynes (Kevin), and Mamie Grimes; brothers, Leon Grimes; Howard Grimes, Preston Grimes; Oscar Grimes; grandchildren Tyra Wafer, Rihonna Love, Rayquan Love, and Cierra Arceneaux; a host of nieces nephews, other relatives and friends.
Viewing will began at 4PM on Sunday, March 16th followed by a wake from 7-8PM at E. R. Johnson Family Mortuary. Homegoing services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 17, 2008, at St Luke Baptist Church with Pastor Charles E. Wheat officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Houston National Cemetery.
