Martin Alexander Archer

Martin Alexander Archer, age 94, passed away Sunday, March 30, 2008 at Mainland Center Hospital. He was born in Crimea, Russia on December 10, 1913. He came to the United States with his mother, sisters and brother and he spoke no English at all. He later taught himself how to speak seven languages, including English by starting his own businesses all over the world. When he was a teenager he helped support his family by working at the Theater along with numerous other jobs. Later he and his brother went into the recycled clothing business, also known as “The Rag” business in Chicago, Illinois. In 1963, he started his own business in Houston, Texas. He retired in the 1980’s, but continued to play the stock market, almost up to his death.
He had a quick, intuitive mind and and a clever sense of humor. He was a gentle, kind, loving and caring man. He led a very blessed life.
He was preceded in death by his wife Madeline Archer; and son Kenneth Archer.
He is survived by his daughters Lisbeth Cohan and husband Harold and Victoria Archer Fairman and husband John; grandsons Matthew and Anthony Archer; baby granddaughter Madeline Archer Fairman; niece Carolyn Titterington; and a host of friends, family who loved him dearly.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, April 1, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. at Temple B’nai Israel, 3008 Avenue O, Galveston, Texas 77550, with Rabbi James Kessler.
