Grand Kids Festival
UTMB Healthy Fun Tent
News Release
Wednesday, April 02, 2008

GALVESTON, Texas — The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston Children’s Hospital is sponsoring a “Healthy Fun Tent” at this year’s Grand Kids Festival Saturday, April 5.

Between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m., UTMB’s Dr. Dolphin, Hooty the Immunization Owl and McGruff the Crime Dog will distribute goodies and health education information to visitors. In addition, there will be healthy, fun activities for children, games, crafts and a special appearance by the UTMB Student Caring Clowns.

This is all part of the entertainment offerings scheduled at the 13th Annual Grand Kids Festival, hosted by The Grand 1894 Opera House. The festival will take place in downtown Galveston at Postoffice and 21st streets.

National performers Brave Combo, Joe McDermott and The Gillette Brothers are just a few of the entertainment options at the festival this year. Presented as a celebration of families and folk arts, the festival will feature three entertainment stages, a storytelling tent, an artisan’s tent and a host of activity booths for kids of all ages.

The festival was created as an extension to The Grand’s programming for children and designed to raise an appreciation and awareness of the importance of fine arts for children.

Saturday festival admission is $3 for adults, $2 for children and free for children 4 years and younger. Half-price advance festival tickets (family four-pack for $5) are available at The Grand’s box office.

For more information or to purchase advance tickets, go online to
www.thegrand.com/TheGrandKidsFest.asp or call The Grand’s box office at 409-765-1894 or 800-821-1894. All proceeds from this festival benefit children’s programs at The Grand 1894 Opera House.
