Helen Powers Mrs. Helen Powers passed from this life Sunday, April 6, 2008, at her home.

Born December 5, 1926 in Mexia, TX, Mrs. Powers had been a resident of Santa Fe for 50 years, previously of Willis.  She had been employed as a High School Counselor/Teacher with Santa Fe ISD for 25 years, retiring in 1987, was a member of Arcadia Christian Church and the Gideon’s Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Lillie  (Pridgen) Lumpkin; brother, Walter “Bud” Lumpkin; sister, Myra Atkins.

Survivors include her loving husband of over 61 years, Jearl Powers; daughter, Linda S. Powers Withrow and husband, Guy of Santa Fe; son, David Powers and wife, Tina Louise of Santa Fe; grandchildren, Jason deGroot and wife, Brandi, Clint deGroot and wife, Casey, January Cantrell and husband, Brian, Sara Dee and husband, Richard, Eric Powers, Christina Louise Gandy and husband, Craig, Rocky Holland, Jr.; great-grandchildren, Dayne deGroot, Dawson deGroot, Peyton deGroot, Macey deGroot, Jack Wesley Mancuso, Madelynn Ann Louise Holland, Spencer Dean Holland, Svetlana Yvette Dee, Richard Patrick Dee VI, Kyrianna Gavrielle Dee; sister, Betty Ward of Denton; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

The family would like to thank her longtime caregivers, Sherry Gail Sassine from Sheltering Arms and grandson, Rocky Holland, Jr., who devoted themselves this past year to her care.

Funeral services will be conducted 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 9, 2008, at Arcadia Christian Church with Pastor Tom Medlin and Pastor Clint deGroot officiating.  Interment will follow at Grace Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Hayes Funeral Home.

Casketbearers will be her grandsons, Brian Cantrell, Clint deGroot, Jason deGroot, Craig Gandy, Rocky Holland, Jr. and Eric Powers.

Friends may call from 5 - 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, 10412 Highway 6, Hitchcock (409) 925-3501.

Those who wish may make memorials in the form of donations to the Gideon’s International, Galveston County Camp, P.O. Box 84, La Marque, TX 77568.
