Robert S. Petteway, Sr.
E. R. Johnson Family Mortuary

Robert S. Petteway, Sr.Robert S. Petteway, Sr., 76, departed this life on Wednesday, April 2, 2008, at his residence.

Robert was born on July 11, 1931, in Galveston, to George, Sr. and Clara Shaw Petteway.

He was a graduate of Central High where he excelled in football. In 1952 he was drafted into the US Marine Corp during the Korean War and was honorable discharge after his duty that also included the Marine Reserve. He was a retired maintenance supervisor with the Galveston Housing Authority and crossing guard with GISD. Throughout the years he volunteered with the Boys and Girls Club, Housing Authority league, served as equipment manager for the Galveston Hurricanes football league and a Prince Hall mason. A faithful member of the First Union church, he served as a trustee and with the Senior and Celestial chorus.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Minnie Petteway; brother and sisters.

A devoted husband and father, he leaves cherish memories with his children, Terry Petteway and wife, Joetta of Galveston; Robert S. Petteway, Jr and Pamela Jackson both of Hitchcock; grandchildren, Robert Blake, Sr.; Lakisah Jones; Terrell Petteway, Terry D. Petteway, Lyas Whitaker; Terran Petteway and Ashley Ross; twelve great grandchildren; brothers, George Petteway, Jr., and Leroy Petteway, Sr.; devoted nephew, Leroy Petteway, Jr.; sisters in law, Mozellar Petteway and Barbara Kelly; goddaughter Sonja Scott; devoted friends, Cindy Diaz, Margaret Biehl; Rody Wilkins; Myrtle Gaston, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Scott, and the Laws family; a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

Viewing will begin at 3 PM on today April 8th, followed by a wake from 7-8 PM at E R Johnson Family Mortuary. A service celebrating his life will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday April 9, 2008 at the First Union Baptist Church with Pastor David L. Everson, Sr. officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeview Cemetery.
