Howard Smith

Howard Smith, born January 29, 1955, went to sleep and woke up peacefully in the arms of the Lord on April 14, 2008. 
Howard joined Galilee Baptist Church in Hitchcock, Texas at a young age.  He later united with Shiloh AME Church in Galveston.  Howard graduated from Hitchcock High School in 1973.  He attended Texas Southern University and several other institutions of higher learning during his life.  At the time of his demise, Howard was employed at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston as an Anesthesia Technician II.  Howard loved to barbecue and spend time with his family.  He was a very quiet, caring person in his own unique way and will be greatly missed by many.
Howard is preceded in death by his grandparents, Mr. Joseph and Mrs. Georgia Smith; father, L. C. Rogers; brother, Larry Rogers; sister, Wanda Rogers and an infant nephew.  Left to cherish many special memories of Howard are his loving and devoted wife, Michelle Smith; daughters, Pearl (Raymond) Bryant of Houston and Louretta Nickerson; son, Joseph (Kimberlyn) Robinson of Texas City; grandchildren, Raya Bryant; Regean Bryant and Reaven Bryant Donley of Houston; godchildren, Angel Harrison-Henderson; Sheldon Collins of West Texas City; mother, Betty Rogers; three sisters, Linda Rogers of California; Pamela Rogers Bluitt of Galveston; Sandra (Odis Young) of Texas City and two brothers, Kenneth Rogers of Galveston and Troy (Sue) Rogers of LaMarque; aunts, Doretha (R. L.) Phillips of Hitchcock; Katherine (Samuel) Jeffery of West Texas City; Lillie Barrows of West Texas City and devoted aunt, Josephine Smith of Texas City; devoted father-in-law, Joseph Calvin Robinson of Texas City; mother-in-law, Theresa Williams of Galveston; devoted sister-in-law, Theresa (James) Garner of Texas City; two brothers-in-law, John Hatch of Galveston and Jason (Kisha) Williams of Houston.  Howard is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews; cousins; in-laws, family and friends.  Special friends Dan; Leroy Cooper;  Mrs. Naomi Hurst;  Mr. and Mrs. Earl Parker; Trisha Wooten and Michael Littleton are left with cherished and loving memories of our beloved Howard.
Visitation for family and friends to share in Howard's homegoing will be held from 5-6:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 20, 2008 at Shiloh AME Church, 1310 Martin Luther King Avenue in Galveston.
Howard's homegoing celebration will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 21, 2008 at Shiloh AME Church.
Burial will follow at Mainland Cemetery in Hitchcock.
