Six candidates entered their names on the ballot for four open seats on the Alvin Community College Board of Regents.

Cary Stiles and ‘Bel Sanchez are running for Position 2, which was held by Sam Z. Chamberlain who resigned last August due to an employment opportunity at another college.  The term for this position expires in 2012.

Incumbents Brenda Brown and Mike Pyburn will be running unopposed for Positions 4 and 5, respectively. Cheryl Knape and Anita Scott have filed for Position 6, which is currently held by Bill Wofford. Wofford chose not to run in this election. Terms for Positions 4, 5 and 6 expire in 2014.

The ACC Board Election will be held May 10 with early voting taking place April 28 through May 3 and May 5 and 6.

Polling locations on Election Day, May 10, include: Alvin Fire Station (Precincts 3, 34, 35 and 41), 300 West House Street in Alvin; Harby Junior High School (Precincts 16, 39, 71 and 72), 1500 Heights Road in Alvin; Liverpool City Hall (Precincts 6 and 57), 2220 7th Street in Liverpool; Brazoria County Courthouse North Annex (Precinct 40), 7313 Corporate Drive in Manvel; Iowa Colony Community Center (Precinct 11), 12003 County Road 65 in Iowa Colony; Mary Marek Elementary (Precinct 59), 1947 Kirby Drive in Pearland; Danbury Community Center (Precinct 15), 6115 5th Street in Danbury; First Baptist Church of Rosharon (Precinct 21), 16211 FM 1462 in Rosharon; Hillcrest Village Municipal Building (Precinct 25 and 52), 200 W. Timberlane in Alvin; Surfside City Hall (Precinct 38), Surfside, Texas; Silverlake Elementary School (Precincts 29, 58 and 75), 2550 County Road 90 in Pearland; Majestic Christian Center (Precincts 36, 47 and 77), 3512 McLean Road in Pearland; and Pearland Community Center (Precinct 61), 3523 Liberty Drive in Pearland. Polling locations on Election Day will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Early voting locations include: Alvin Library, 105 S. Gordon in Alvin; Brazoria County Courthouse West Annex, 451 N. Velasco, Room 144, in Angleton; Precinct 4 County Barn, 1001 Market Street in Brazoria; Brazosport College, 500 College Drive in Lake Jackson; Freeport Library, 410 Brazosport Blvd. in Freeport; Brazoria County Courthouse North Annex, 7313 Corporate Drive in Manvel; Justice of the Peace, Precinct 3, Place 2 Courtroom, 3801 E. Pear in Pearland; Westside Event Center, 2150 Country Place Parkway in Pearland; Sweeny Community Center, 205 W. Ashley Wilson Road in Sweeny; and West Columbia City Hall, 512 E. Brazos in West Columbia. Polling locations for early voting will be open April 28 through May 2 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., May 3 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and May 5 and 6 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The wide selection of early polling locations is the result of ACC conducting a joint election with other elections in the county. 

Registered voters can vote by mail if they meet one of the following qualifications: 65 years of age or older, confinement in jail, disabled or will be absent from the county on Election Day or during the early voting period. To vote by mail, send applications to Joyce Hudman, County Clerk, 111 E. Locust, Suite 200, Angleton, TX 77515-4654 before the close of business on May 2.
