John Robert Skidmore, Sr., 72, passed away May 18, 2008, in Crystal Beach, TX. He was born to Milton and Gertrude Skidmore in Osage, Kansas, on July 2, 1936. John worked for Galveston ISD for 16 years maintaining the football field, which he dearly loved. He enjoyed the up-and-coming athletes. After retirement, John became an avid bird watcher and spent many months on the southern coast of Texas watching the birds.
John is survived by his loving wife, Ellen Christine Skidmore; children: Robert Lee Skidmore and wife, Sherry, of Melvern, KS; Deborah Sue Woodson and husband, Danny, of Melvern, KS; David Lee Skidmore, of Conroe, TX; Christine Elaine Weber, of Parker, CO; John Robert Skidmore, Jr. of Lebo, KS; and Tammy Lyn Wood and husband, Kinston, of Chocowinity, NC; sisters: Ruth Carson, of North Platt, NE; Jean Isreal, of Lake Stevens, WA; and Lou Mitchum, of Fairchild, CA; 13 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren.
John’s family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 pm, Thursday, May 22nd, at Malloy & Son Funeral Home.
Funeral Mass will be 10:00 am, Friday, May 23rd, at Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church in Port Bolivar. Following the services, there will be a luncheon at Comeaux Hall on the church grounds.
