Local 2 News anchor and Marine Corps veteran Bill Balleza, who served in the Viet Nam War, will serve as master of ceremonies at Monday's Memorial Day service at the Houston Veterans Administration National Cemetery.
Several Members of Congress and United States Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison will address the crowd. The keynote speech will be by retired Army Major General Robert Ivany, who is president of the University of St. Thomas. Ivany has served in Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, the Federal Republic of Germany and Vietnam, where he was wounded in action and decorated for valor.
The Texas Air National Guard, 147th Fighter Wing will provide a flyover at the ceremony, which will include a riderless horse procession by the Houston Police Mounted Patrol, a presentation of Amazing Grace by the Houston Highlander Pipe Band and a rifle salute by the VFW District 4 Ceremonial Detail accompanied by the 13th Regular Infantry with muskets.
The event is coordinated by the National Cemetery Council of Greater Houston.
The ceremony will begin at 9:30 a.m. Houston Veterans Administration National Cemetery is at 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive in Houston.
