Carnes Brothers Funeral Home

Beatrice TijerinaBeatrice Tijerina, age 91, of Galveston died Tuesday, June 3, 2008, at John Sealy Hospital in Galveston. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, June 6, 2008 at Carnes Brothers Funeral Home with the Reverend Richard Brand officiating.  Burial will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Galveston under the direction of Carnes Brothers Funeral Home. Visitation will begin at 9:00 am on Friday until service time at the funeral home.

Beatrice was born October 4, 1916 in Brownsville, Texas to Jose Maria Zamora and Maria Lartigue Zamora. She moved to Galveston when she was 17 where she met and married her husband Michael Tijerina who passed away in 1964. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great and great-great grandmother to her family. She was a member of Primera Iglesia Bautista Church in Galveston; she loved to read her bible and was a faithful Christian lady.

Preceded in death by her parents, husband, 2 sisters, and 3 brothers, survivors include daughters, Alice Martinez and husband Rey, and Frances Diaz and husband Jesse; son, John Tijerina and wife Phyllisall of Galveston; sisters, Olivia Villamil of Galveston and Vera Price of Houston; brother, Refugio Zamora of Brownsville, close nephew, Gilbert Zamora of Galveston; grandchildren, Carol Diaz Sterling and husband Randy, Cindy Niswonger, Cathy Diaz and husband Nicholas, Jessica Diaz-Skaggs and husband Jake, Elizabeth Martinez, Michael Martinez and wife Lillian, Lori Martinez and husband Cesar and Julie Martinez; great grandchildren, Erique Sterling, Scott Niswonger, Kaely Diaz, Joshua Niswonger, Ryan Martinez, Tyler Martinez, Brandon Martinez, Jadyn Lopez and Cera Horry; great-great grandchild, Jasmine Niswonger; nieces, nephews,  other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers will be Erique Sterling, Randall Sterling, III, Scott Niswonger, Joshua Niswonger, Jake Skaggs, and Nicholas Horry.
