Louis Joseph UrbaniLouis Joseph Urbani, beloved son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, 83, of Galveston, passed away Wednesday, June 4, 2008, at UTMB Hospital.

Funeral Mass will be 2:00 pm, Friday, June 6th, at St. Mary’s Cathedral Basilica with Father Gerald Lewis, SVD, as Celebrant.  Burial will follow the service at Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery in Dickinson.

The family will receive visitors after 5:00 pm, Thursday, June 5th, at St. Mary’s Cathedral Basilica.  A rosary will be held at 6:30 pm, led by Deacon John Pistone.

Louis was born March 19, 1925, in Galveston, Texas.  He served in the US Coast Guard during World War II.  Louis worked with his father in the family grocery store for several years and later worked at Gerland’s.  He retired as a toll collector at the San Luis Pass Bridge.  Louis was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus #787.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Pompeo and Josephine Urbani, Sr.; his mother- and father-in-law, Mr. & Mrs. Joe Curtino, Sr.; and his son-in-law, Robert Creuzbaur.

Louis is survived by his wife of 59 years, Rosemarie; four daughters: Peggie, Judy and husband, Bruce; Rosemarie J.; and Kitty; grandchildren: Shelly, Bobbie, Amanda, Brenda, Wayne, and Louis; great grandchildren, Brook and Christopher; brothers, Pete Urbani, Jr. and Rico Urbani; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Pallbearers will be Louis’s grandchildren.  Honorary pallbearers will be Dennis Byrd and the staff of the San Luis Pass Bridge Toll Collectors.
