Runoff elections during the next two weekends will decide the final winners of mayoral and council seats in four towns.
On Saturday, League City will hold runoff elections for Mayor and Council Position 1. Toni Randall and Chris Mallios will compete for the mayoral election after being the top candidates in a three way competition with incumbent Jerry Shults on May 10, who received the fewest votes. Council Position 1 incumbent Tad Nelson will face Neil Barron for his seat. In both races, none of the candidates received above 50 percent of the vote, which is required to claim victory.
Taylor Lake Village will also hold runoff elections on Saturday for City Council Position 5. Incumbent Don Hopkins evenly split votes with Frank McGrath during the May 10 elections.
On June 21, Alvin will fill an unexpired term for the Council at-Large Position 1 seat. No clear victor emerged from the four-person race in May. The runoff will be between Charles Batty, III and Ramiro Mondragon.
Port Arthur will hold elections on June 21 to decide Council Position 8. The race will be between Kerry “Twin” Thomas and Thomas J. Henderson.
Early voting ended yesterday for League City and Taylor Lake Village. Early voting began Monday for Alvin and Port Arthur elections, and continues through June 17.
