Jerry Garrett, 57, went home to be with our Lord and Savior on Thursday, June 19, 2008, at UTMB Hospital.
 Jerry was born on January 29, 1951, in Memphis, TN, to L.D. and Estelle Gamble Shurn and moved to Galveston at an early age. He served his country as a U. S. Marine and was employed with Edgewater Retirement Center for seven years as an Air Condition Specialist. He enjoyed fishing, music and sports.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mable Blanks; sons, Michael Pickett; nephews, Willie, Jr.and Tony Lynn Antoine, Sr.. He leaves to cherish fond memories, sons, Jerry Garrett Blanks, Jr. (Kena Minix); Dominic Blanks; Theophilus Fontenot, Sr. (Sherita); Allen Buckner and fiancé, Gloria Marie Decker; sister, Rosie Antoine (Ephraim Douglas); grandchildren, Jerry Kebron Blanks III; Domingue; Dominic, Jr., and Alexus Blanks; Twanikka; Taja, and Theophilus Fontenot, Jr.; three great grandchildren; numerous relatives and a host of family friends.

A memorial service in honor of Jerry will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 25, 2008, in the auditorium of Edgewater Retirement Center (2228 Seawall Blvd.) with Rev. Ray Pinard officiating.
