Carnes Brothers Funeral Home

Juan C. “Wero” Rodriguez, Sr. Juan C. “Wero” Rodriguez, Sr. age 78, of Galveston passed away while surrounded by his family, Wednesday, June 25, 2008, at his residence in Galveston. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday, June 28, 2008 at St. Patrick Catholic Church with Father John Paul Flajole, OFM celebrant.  Burial will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Galveston under the direction of Carnes Brothers Funeral Home in Galveston, Texas. Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Friday at the funeral home with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 pm.

“Wero” as he was affectionately known was born February 8, 1930 in General Teran, Nuevo Leon, Mexico to Reyes Rodriguez and Cecilia Cantu Rodriguez. He grew up in Mexico until he moved to Texas where he met his wife of 56 years, Maria  Del  Rugio Rodriguez. He was employed as a Merchant Marine Seaman by the Seafarers International Union retiring with over 42 years of service. He loved the sea and enjoyed being able to provide for his family. He was a great husband and father and was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church. Mr. Rodriguez loved to hunt White Tail deer and enjoyed spending time with his family especially his grandchildren.

Mr. Rodriguez was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 56 years who passed away in 2007 Maria “Tanna” Rodriguez, sister, Maria Luisa Rodriguez, and brothers, Carlos Rodriguez, Cristobal Rodriguez and Roberto Rodriguez. Survivors include his daughter, Lisa Treviño and husband Manuel of Galveston; sons, Gilbert Rodriguez of Texas City and Jim Rodriguez of Galveston; sisters, Carmen Rodriguez Peña and husband Serapio, and Consuelo Rodriguez; a brother, Luis Rodriguez and wife Estella all of Monterrey, Mexico; grandchildren, Jason Rodriguez, Carol Treviño, Cindy Treviño, Steven Treviño and David Treviño; numerous other relatives and many friends.

Pallbearers will be Jason Rodriguez, Gerardo Peña, Frank Vargas, Alex Vargas, Jr., Albert Treviño, and Hector Garza.

The family would like to extend special thanks to Maria Mejia and Lorena Benitez for the exceptional care given to Mr. Rodriguez and his family during his illness.
