On December 4, 1928, the Lord showered down a wonderful blessing to Eliza and Maximillian Quilla Sr. Pearlie Mae Quilla, the seventh of ten children, was born in Fayettville, Texas, raised and educated in Galveston. She graduated from Central High School with the class of 1946. Formerly married to Letha Verdell Phillips, Pearlie was a devoted homemaker and mother who dedicated her life to her savior at an early age. On Tuesday, June 24, 2008, she was called home by her savior leaving this earthly realm for her "Heavenly Home."
Pearlie was preceded in death by her daughter Carol Ann Phillips-Johnson; her parents, Eliza and Maximillian Quilla Sr.; her sisters, Ella Lee Morris, Katie Quilla and her brothers, Roger Quilla and Maximillian Quilla Jr., and a niece Christina L. Scurry.
Pearlie leaves to cherish her memory sons, Ronald L. Phillips Sr. (Fredericka) Beaumont, Texas, Louis L. Phillips Sr. stationed in Rota, Spain (Esiquia of Galveston), Michael J. Phillips (Cynthia) LaMarque, Texas; her sisters, Rose Gates, Maymie Kimble, Idesta Lawrence (Leon), Geneva Scurry, all of Galveston and Mary Johnson of San Francisco, California. Pearlie was extremely proud of her five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren as well as her many nieces and nephews.
Pearlie will be missed by her family and friends, as well as her, St. Luke's Full Gospel Church family in Galveston, her nursing attendant, Dorothy Simmons, and very special family friends, Esse and Mary Sandles of Texas City.
The family would like to thank the doctors and staff of Mainland Center Hospital and UTMB for their care and attention to our mother, sister, grandparent and friend.
Visitation will be held from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at Wynn Funeral Home on Sunday, June 29, 2008, followed by a wake from 6:00-7:00 p.m.
The Homegoing Celebration will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 30, 2008, at Wynn Funeral Home. Pastor William Randle will officiate. Interment will follow at Lakeview Cemetery in Galveston.
