Galveston – Alma Vincent Howell of Galveston passed away on Friday, June 27, 2008 at the age of 97.
She was born on October 19, 1910 in Delcambre, Louisiana to parents Felician and Nolia Vincent. The family moved to Crowley for a time and then to Kaplan where Alma spent her early years.
She started her working career with Western Union in 1927. There she met and married her first husband, J.L. Jenkins, in 1933. After 2 years of working in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, they moved to Galveston in 1935. She went to work for the State of Texas Human Resource Division in 1945 until her retirement in 1975. Her first husband passed away in 1979 after 46 years of marriage. She married for a second time in 1982 to Jimmy Howell of Galveston. Jimmy passed away in 1988.
She was preceded in death by her sisters Francis McNutt of Abbeyville, LA. and Olga Leverett of El Paso, TX.; brothers Murphy Vincent, Roy Vincent and Roland Vincent of Kaplan, LA., George Vincent of Houma, LA. and John Vincent of Groves, TX.
She leaves behind one sister, Margaret Mouton of Groves, TX.; several nieces and nephews; and her dear friend and caregiver Daniel Cordero of Galveston.
Visitation will be held on Monday, June 30, 2008 from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at J. Levy & Termini Funeral Home. A Rosary will be held on Wednesday, July 2, 2008 at 10:30 A.M. at Vincent Funeral Home in Kaplan, Louisiana, with a Funeral Mass beginning at 12 Noon at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Kaplan, Cemetery.
