photos by Lynda GuidryMy interview is with State Representative Larry Taylor, District 24. Listen

Representative Taylor, a lifelong Texan, was elected to represent Galveston County, District 24, in 2002.  Larry received two outstanding awards during the 78th Legislative Session.  He was elected “Freshman of the Year” by the Texas House Republican Caucus, and received the “Texas Hero Award” from the Texas Public Policy Foundation.

During the 78th Legislative Session, Larry served on the Insurance, Public Health, and House Administration Committees.  The Texas Conservative Coalition appointed Larry as Co-Chair of their Task Force on Public School Finance.  Upon the final passage of his first bill, HB 1707, Texas House Speaker Tom Craddick presented him with a commemorative gavel.  As a member of the Texas House of Representatives Committee on Insurance, Larry was the sponsor of the measure in the Texas House for the Senate Bill 541, the Texas Consumer Choice Health Care Act, which passed the Texas House and Senate in June, 2003.

Larry has served as a City Council Member and Mayor Pro-Tem of the City of Friendswood.  He has spent his adult life in community service.  He has served as Chairman of Friendswood’s Economic Development Committee, the Friendswood High School’s Site Based Decision Making Committee, and as President of the Friendswood Chamber of Commerce and Rotary Clubs.  He is currently serving on the Board of Hope Foundation, a resident facility for the mentally handicapped.

Being Galveston County’s State Representative is very special to Larry.  His mother’s family has lived in Galveston County since 1848.  He attended Friendswood schools from 1st to 12th grade.  Larry has been married to his college sweetheart, Kerri, for 20 years and they have three children, Trudy, Carly and Jacob.  Larry owns the Truman Taylor Insurance Agency.

Larry genuinely cares about helping others, and his position as the State Representative of Galveston County gives him the opportunity to help a variety of organizations, and make a true difference in the lives of his constituents, and the state of Texas.  Larry’s strong belief in community service, his close family relationships, and his faith play a strong role in his outstanding success as a State Representative.  One of the goals of my interviews is to focus on accomplishing dreams and living lives of excellence.  After being elected “Freshman of the Year” and receiving the “Texas Hero Award” Larry is certainly a wonderful example of accomplishing dreams, and making a difference in people’s lives!!
