Freedom Days 2008
City of Beaumont
News Release
Wednesday, July 02, 2008

Come and join the annual Fourth of July festivities sponsored by the City of Beaumont at Riverfront Park on Friday, July 4.  The park will open at 5:00 p.m.  Bring your blankets or lawn chairs and enjoy the fun, food and music.  Foods such as barbecue, boudain, hot dogs, pork kabobs, funnel cakes, cotton candy, popcorn, snow cones, and ice cream will be available along with cool beverages.  Food and drink will be available in all areas of Riverfront Park.

Festivities will begin at 5:00 p.m. with the sounds of country, jazz and blues groups, so come out, pick a nice spot to relax and enjoy an evening with friends and family in Riverfront Park.  Country artist Regina Richards will take the Riverfront Park stage at 5:00 PM, followed by 9 Station Drive at 6:00 PM and at 7:30 PM Doyle Bramhall will take the stage until 9:00 PM.

Our Master of Ceremonies for the evening will be the Honorable Mayor of Beaumont, Becky Ames.

For your entertainment pleasure, the Symphony of Southeast Texas, under the direction of Dr. Jimmy Simmons will perform a fun and exciting program which includes musical selections of light classics, jazz standards, musical theatre, and patriotic selections including the William Tell Overture, Georgia on My Mind (featuring Kurt Killion on saxophone), Sing, Sing, Sing (featuring Jimmy Simmons on clarinet), and God Bless the USA.   This year you can enjoy the Symphony in the comfort of the beautiful renovated Julie Rogers Theatre.   The performance will begin at 8:00 PM.  Come a little early and get that special seat and enjoy the Symphony in  air-conditioned comfort.

The Ground Rush Skydiving group out of Nome, Texas, will provide a skydiving demonstration with up to four jumpers.   The demonstration will include pyrotechnics and other fanfare.   Watch the skies around 6:30 pm for these jumpers.

This year we are excited to again welcome the Southeast Texas Veteran's Service Group who will be providing the color guard and also a “twenty-one gun salute” for us during the program.

The evening will conclude with a spectacular fireworks display accompanied by patriotic music.  This is always a sensational panoramic display as the pyrotechnics are reflected in the waters of the Neches River.  The evening, provided by the City of Beaumont, is one that you will long remember.

There will be no admission charge for attending the activities in Riverfront Park or the Symphony in the Julie Rogers Theatre.

Due to road construction on Main Street, we are recommending you come a little early and park at any of the following parking lots where there will be no parking fees charged:  Beaumont City Hall parking lot, Jefferson County Courthouse parking lot, Remote Encoding parking lot, First Baptist Church parking lot, and St. Mark’s Episcopal Church parking lot.   We are recommending that you come into downtown either by way of College Street or off the interstate to Willow and Park.  Main Street is under construction which makes it difficult to handle heavy traffic.

See you on the 4th in Downtown Beaumont.
