Carnes Brothers Funeral Home

Lewis Albert CooperLewis Albert Cooper, age 80, of Galveston died Tuesday, July 15, 2008, at Cornerstone Hospital of Houston Clear Lake. Funeral services will be held at 7:00 pm, Thursday, July 18, 2008 at Carnes Brothers Funeral Home.  Burial will follow Friday at 10:00 am at the Houston National Cemetery in Houston under the direction of Carnes Brothers Funeral Home of Galveston. Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Thursday at the funeral home.

Lewis was born August 31, 1927 in Magnolia Springs, Texas the 12th child of 22 siblings to Anthony Cooper and Norsie Spikes Cooper. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving his country honorably during the Korean War. He was employed by the Hershey Lumber Company before being employed by ILA Local # 1513 at the Grain Elevator and then retiring from the City of Galveston refuse department.

Preceded in death by his parents,  his wife, Alberta “Boots” Cooper who passed away in 1999, granddaughter, Wenona Morris, and several of his brothers and sisters, Lewis is survived by his daughters, Norsie Young and Mary Jackson and husband Clyde all of Texas City; sisters, Opal Barlow of Magnolia Springs, Texas, Pauline Shoulders of Silsbee, Texas, Viola Garrett and Beatrice Dumas and husband Anthony all of Beaumont; brothers, Jelton Cooper and wife Pat, and Leonard Cooper all of Magnolia Springs, and Alton Cooper and wife Beatrice of California;  grandchildren, Antoinette Winston and husband Quentin of LaMarque, LaSauna Cooper and husband Craig of Texas City, Terris Holloway of California, and Elon Lewis Young and wife Erika of Texas City; sister in law, Mary Johnson, and a devoted niece, Shirley Spiller both of Texas City; numerous great grandchildren, other relatives and many friends.
