Carnes Brothers Funeral Home

Paul RamirezPaul Ramirez, 67, of Galveston, died Sunday, July 20, 2008, at John Sealy Hospital in Galveston, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am,  Wednesday, July 23, 2008 at St. Mary’s Cathedral Basilica in Galveston with Father Mike Buentello, celebrant. Graveside services will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Galveston under the direction of Carnes Brothers Funeral Home, 1201 Tremont, Galveston, Texas. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm Tuesday, July 22, 2008, with a Vigil to be held and the Rosary to be recited at 7:00 pm at the funeral home.

Paul was born February 7, 1941 in New Gulf, Texas to Guadalupe Ramirez and Pilar  Sanchez Ramirez. He grew up in Boling, Texas, graduated from Boling High School and continued his education at Sam Houston State University earning his Bachelors Degree in Sociology. Moving to Galveston in 1968 he was employed as a counselor and supervisor for the Texas Rehabilitation Commission for the State of Texas. He was a Ham Operator, K5RDD, loved amateur photography, playing his guitar, but his greatest joy was doting on his grandchildren.

Preceded in death by his parents, Guadalupe and Pilar Ramirez; sisters, Amelia and Carolina Romero; brothers, Rudy, Joe and Manuel Ramirez, Paul is survived by his wife of 44 years, Mary Ramirez of Galveston; daughter, Celeste Dalehite and husband, Charles of Galveston; sons Chris Ramirez of Galveston and Jim Ramirez and wife Dalia of League City; grandchildren, Karina, Melissa, Jimmy and Alex Ramirez of League City, Drew, Dylan and Derek Morales, Charlie, Jennifer,  Donovan Paul, Jacqueline and Kaitlyn Dalehite all of Galveston; brother, Arturo Ramirez and wife Rosa of Brazoria, Texas; aunt, Carmen Sosa and husband, Robert of Houston; niece, Paula Ramirez; nephews, Oliver and Omar Ramirez; other relatives and many friends.

Pallbearers will be Chris Ramirez, Jim Ramirez, Oliver Ramirez, Omar Ramirez, Carlos Garcia and Danny Herrera. Honorary pallbearers are Allen Williams, Wayne Welsh, R.V. Adams, Louie Poiriet, Dan Cox, Frank Perez, Larry Perez and Carlos Villarreal.
