"It is pleasure to be here to honor these five deserving honorees who work so hard to make Houston a better place to live, to raise a family and to grow a business," Dewhurst said. "It strikes me that each one of our recipients, each one of our honorees this evening, exemplifies the best and the brightest, not only in Houston, but in Texas."

Texas State Representative Jim Murphy also made a special presentation, prior to the introduction of the five honorees and the presentation of awards.  Each of the honorees, John Boettiger, Jeff Brown, Jane Cummins, Melissa King and James Rodriguez made remarks.
