Carnes Brothers Funeral Home

Emily Ruth Munson Emily Ruth Munson age 18, of Galveston died Friday, August 1, 2008, as a result of a car accident in Chambers County. She was with her close friend and confidant Austin, who also passed away. Local funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, August 4, 2008 at Moody Memorial First United Methodist Church with the Reverend Bert Bagley officiating. The family will receive visitors at the church from 12:00 noon until service time on Monday, under the direction of Carnes Brothers Funeral Home of Galveston. Visitation and a wake service will be held Tuesday, from 5:00pm until 8:00pm at Greenoaks Funeral Home in Baton Rouge with a funeral service to be held at 10:00 am Wednesday. Burial will follow Wednesday, August 6, 2008 at Green Oaks Memorial Park   in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.  

Emily was born January 16, 1990 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana to George William Munson and Kerrie Ruth Roubique Munson. She was a 2008 graduate of Ball High School in Galveston and was scheduled to attend the Academy of Arts University in San Francisco in the fall. Emily was very social and had many friends. She loved the arts and fashion and chose a career path in the fashion industry. She had recently learned to surf and use her athletic ability. She enjoyed her job at Ben and Jerry’s where she ate lots of ice cream, and met and served many people. Emily loved Galveston where her many friends knew her to be a great person and true friend. She was a member of the student council at Ball High School and will be missed by her many friends and class mates.

Emily was preceded in death by her grandparents, George William Munson, Sr. and Emily Black Munson, and Kenneth and Ruth Roubique. Survivors include mother and step father, Kerrie and Larry Highley of Galveston, father and step mother, Bill and Lou Munson of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; sisters, Marie Guerin of Houston, Adele Guerin of Galveston, Laura Kirby of Baton Rouge, Linda Hudnall and husband Brian of Baton Rouge, and Michelle Trapen and husband Mark of Hammond, Louisiana; brothers, Trey Munson and wife Tracy of Richland, Pennsylvania, Ryan Highley and wife Kendra of Flower Mound, Texas, J. Chad Highley, and Morgan Highley and wife Christina all of Oklahoma City; aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and many friends.

Memorials may be sent to the Animal Shelter and Adoption Center of Galveston, 6814 Broadway Galveston, Texas 77551.
