Velma Rita “Red” Strimple
J. Levy & Termini Funeral Home

Velma Rita “Red” StrimpleVelma Rita “Red” Strimple, age 73, passed away on Saturday, August 2, 2008 at Christus St. John’s Hospital. She was born in Port Bolivar, Texas on January 7, 1935. She was an avid fisherman and loved to gig for flounders. Red loved to cook and was always looking for new recipes to try out. She also loved to barbecue and grow herbs. One of the things she loved the most was “hanging” out with her daughters, because most people thought she was their sister, instead of their mother, which thrilled her to no end and made her feel young. She was a very loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend. She will be sadly missed by all who loved her.

She was preceded in death by her parents Angus and Mary Ryan; Son Rob Wade Strimple; brother Angus Ryan, Jr.; sister Margie Kreuzer; and grandsons Ryan Jones and Hoss Grossman.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years Alfred Strimple; sister Mary Kahla; brother James E. Ryan Sr.(Esther); daughters Denise Roberts (Bubba), Bonnie De Voe (Tommy), Dee Een Kapner (David), Patti Gilmore and Tina Strimple; sons Roy Al, Koot and Hoss Strimple (Jamie); her faithful companion “Big Boy”; grandchildren Kelli, Cacynda, Monnie, Thomas, Ashlea, Melissa, David, Sarah, Charlie, Roxanne, Heidi, Brittany, Victoria, Katina, Cody, Krissy, Scott, Caden, Austin, Garrett; great-grandchildren-Emile, Amanda, John, Casey, Omar, Anthony, Mauricio, Ivan, Kelby, Makinze, Everett, Lauren,  Aden and Tyler; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 8, 2008 from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at J. Levy & Termini Funeral Home. A celebration of her life will be held at the Port Bolivar Volunteer Fire Station on Saturday, August 9, 2008 at 4:00 P.M.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the Clinical Trial Nurses with the Oncology Department, Linda, Phyllis and Jamie; chemotherapy nurses Ron Hamilton and Rosie Rodriguez; the nurses at the Towers at UTMB 9C, Brian Anderson and Pam Brown; Christus St. John’s Hospital and staff; and Palliative Hospice Care Team. Their kindness and compassion helped ease the burden of the family during “Red’s” final days.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Port Bolivar Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 675, Port Bolivar, Texas 77650.
