David Charles Dergin, 45, departed this life on Thursday, August 7th, at UTMB Hospital.
David was born on January 7, 1963, to Gilbert and Ella Mae Ward. He was baptized at Progressive Baptist Church in Galveston, at an early age. He attended Galveston public schools and graduated from Center High School in Center, TX. He worked as a longshoreman and was employed by the City of Galveston for 15 years, and recently with B & B Roofing Co. until he became disabled. David was preceded in death by his father, and sister, Helen Ward- Goodlow. He is survived by his wife of seventeen years, Mary Dergin; mother, Ella Mae Dergin; son, Gerron Simmons; daughters, Davette Simmons, Danette Dergin; stepchildren, Aaron, Ashley, and Lawrence; second mother, Inez Petteway; 8 grandchildren; brothers, Gilbert Dergin (Clara), Harold Dergin, Sam Scott; sisters, Sharon Guillory (Emery), Barbara Cloudy (Howard), Betty Dergin, Bernadine Dergin, Dorothy Ward- Bernard (Lester), Eulla Ward- Douglas; stepmother, Casanna Howard; uncles, Levi, June, Mose Bias of Louisiana, Dave Ward (Ethel), Randolph Ward; aunt, Polly Ward of Cedar Lake, TX; brothers in law, James, Anthony, Mike, Leroy; sisters in law, Gloria, Hattie, Pennie; special cousins, Georgia and Vincent Fontenot; special friends, Ray Jones, Otis Johnson, Byron Evans, Joel Evans, Randy Jenkins, Percy Saxton, Clarence Edwards; a very special and devoted niece, Demetris Demerson; and a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Special thanks to Dr. Lick and the staff of UTMB Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m.on Saturday, August 16, 2008, followed by funeral service at 1:00 p.m. at Progressive Baptist Church, Rev. W. E. Stevens, Pastor and Rev. Howard Cloudy officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeview Cemetery.
