Ona Bell Hill

Ona Bell Hill received her reward of eternal rest after a blessed life of 92 years. Ona was born on March 9, 1916 to Nathaniel and Addie Hill in Lavaca County, Texas. Ona relocated to Galveston, Texas in 1947 where she resided until God called her home. She was a devout member of Jerusalem Baptist Church for over 55 years, serving as President of the Mother’s Union, member of Southern District Association, a children's church instructor, and also a member of Jerusalem Mass Choir. She held the position of Matron for the Eastern Star, Morning Star Chapter 204, Galveston, Texas. Ona entered into eternal rest on August 15, 2008 at the home of Judge and Mrs. Jim Yarbrough, where she faithfully served for over 28 years as caregiver and extended family member. Ona leaves with cherished memories of her life, 3 sons; Allen (Madella), Eddie, and Samuel Williby; daughter, Clara; three stepchildren, Charles, Doris, and Ruby; 20 grandchildren; brother, Claude Hill; sisters, Evelyn Hill, and Viola Lewis (Rev. Aubrey), special friends, Earline Williams and family; Vivian Haynes; Judge Jim Yarbrough and family; Alvin Harper and family; a host of great grandchildren, great- great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family and loved ones.
Viewing will be held from 3-5PM on Friday, August 22nd at E R Johnson Family Mortuary, followed by a wake from 7–8 p.m. at Jerusalem Baptist Church. A service celebrating her life will be held Saturday, August 23, 2008, at 10:00 a.m., also at the church with Pastor A.S. Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at Yellow Bank Cemetery in Koerth, Texas.
