James Henry Rawlins
James Crowder Funeral Home-Dickinson

James Henry RawlinsJames Henry Rawlins, 82, resident of Santa Fe, Texas, passed away August 22, 2008. He was born September 29, 1925 to Joseph Theodore Rawlins, Sr. and Ruby Jewel Neal Rawlins. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, James Michael (Mike) Rawlins; brothers, Joseph Jr., Harry Neal, Ray and wife Jackie.

He won the Golden Gloves title in boxing.

James joined the Merchant Marines, he was awarded the Mediterranean Middle East, Philippine Liberation, Atlantic and the Pacific War Zone Bars, the Combat and the Victory Medals.

James received a letter thanking him for serving in the Merchant Marines signed by Harry S. Truman. He was a 57 year member as a piledriver of the Carpenter’s Local Union.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Virginia Rawlins, son, Richard L. Rawlins and wife Marleen; daughter, Robbie Arlene Emerick and husband Mike; sisters, Bobby Joe Mackey and husband Pete, Patsy Ruth Sheeley and husband Larry; 8 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Monday, August 25, 2008 at Crowder Funeral Home in Dickinson, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 26, 2008 at the Crowder Funeral Home Chapel in Dickinson. In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Houston Hospice at the Texas Medical Center, 1905 Holcombe Blvd, Houston, TX 77030
