Gregory Jonathan Smith

Gregory Jonathan Smith was born, July 16, 1948 in Galveston, Texas to Robert and Mary Louise Smith. He attended Galveston public schools before moving to Los Angeles and graduated from Locke High School in Los Angeles. Gregory was baptized at the Avenue L Baptist Church at an early age, before moving with his family to California. He worked as a chef cook at various restaurants in L.A.
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, brothers, Robert (Bobbie) Smith, Theodore (Ted) Smith, godmother and father, Napoleon and Ada Hill Demerson, and great aunts.
He is survived by sons, Gregory and Robert Smith of Los Angeles, CA; brothers, Tacuma Shareef and Lawrence (Terri) Smith of Oklahoma City, OK; sisters, Evonne (Marion) Tompkins, La Marque, TX, Deborah Smith and Pamela Smith of Houston, TX; aunt, Patricia Ivey, La Marque, TX; great-aunt, Theodessa Sutton of Los Angeles, CA; devoted cousins, Irene (Johnnie) Young, Floretta (Andrew) Laws of Galveston, TX, Dr. Margaret Armstead Alexander of Oakland, CA; many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, cousins, and friends who will miss Gregory.
Visitation will be held from 4-6PM on today August 27th at E. R. Johnson Family Mortuary. A service celebrating his life will be held on Thursday, August 28, 2008, at 1:00 PM, at Avenue L Missionary Baptist Church with Reverend E. R. Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at Galveston Memorial Park Cemetery in Hitchcock, TX
