Melvin Price “Skeeter”

Melvin Price “Skeeter”, 81 of Galveston passed away from this earthly life on Sunday, August 31, 2008, at Mainland Medical Center in Texas City. Skeeter as he was fondly called by all that knew him was born in Tyler, Texas to the late Cornelius and Eddie Lee Price. Melvin was a boatman and seafarer for over 40 years for Lykes Brothers until his retirement, and was a member of the National Maritime Union.
Melvin was preceded in death by his parents. He leaves with precious memories a very devoted wife of 52 years, Lula Jasper Price, of Galveston; brothers: Cornelius Price (Pearl) of San Francisco, CA: Andrew Price of Big Spring, TX, and Roy Lee Warner of Arizona; sisters: Barbara Bryant- Lee (Mack) of Denver, CO; Ruby Suriapek of Dallas, TX, and Fay Ree Edwards of Philadelphia, PA; a devoted step sister; Shirley Fay Pollard (Ben) of Denver, CO; uncle; Ray Hammon of Oakland, CA; devoted aunts: Margaret Carroll of Pinole, CA; Stella B. Miller of Lindale, TX; Dissie Yarbrough of Tyler, TX; a devoted aunt in law, Martha Hammon of Forth Worth, TX; special friends, Billie Crowder, Charles Raphael, Waskom Russell; four sisters in law, four brothers in law, and a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and other relatives.
Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM, Saturday, September 6, 2008, followed by a life’s celebration at 11:00 AM in the chapel of E. R. Johnson Family Mortuary, with the Rev. Walter Jasper, Sr. officiating. Burial will follow immediately after the service at Forest Park East Cemetery in Webster, TX.
