JoAnn Oldham Michael

JoAnn Oldham Michael, age 70, left this world Friday, September 5, 2008 at her home.  She was born in Galveston, TX at St. Mary ’s Hospital on February 18, 1938 and was retired from Texas A&M Galveston. Following her retirement JoAnn returned to school and became a cosmetologist.  She had been a Principle of Broadway Baptist Church for 12 years, where she taught Sunday School and sang in the Choir. JoAnn was also a member of Zion Lutheran Church where she served as director of Vacation Bible School.

 

JoAnn was a long term member of the Mystic Krewe of Aquarius and served as one of the producers of the annual U.S.O. show.  She was also a member of the oldest Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie # 48, Ladies Auxiliary, where she assisted with BINGO.  Over the years JoAnn enjoyed fishing, crabbing, swimming, singing, dancing and vacations with her family.  She was very proud of being a B.O.I.

 

JoAnn was preceded in death by her parents, Vernon P. Oldham and Helen C. Doherty Oldham; her sister, Patsy J. Boysen; and her ex-husband and lifelong friend, Donald L. Michael Sr.

 

She is survived by her sons, Donald L. Michael Jr. (Peggy) and David C. Michael (Tammie); her daughters, Brenda J. Drickey ( Sharon ) and Melinda C. Michael; sister, Linda E. Garber (Anthony); grandsons, Donald L. Michael III, Jeffery A. Michael (Stephanie) and Christopher L. Michael; great grandchildren, Nicholaus D. Michael and KateLynn M. Michael; nephews, Lee D. Rhame Sr. (Theresa) and Keven E. Garber (Sandra); nieces, Cynthia A. Moffitt (Zeke) and Donna J. Bekkema (Woody); daughter by choice, Nancy J Flowers; numerous grand nieces and nephews; and special friends Johnny Lidstone, Sheila Lidstone and Lori Millard.

 

The family will receive visitors after 5:00 pm, Monday, September 8th, at Malloy & Son Funeral Home.

 

Funeral services will be 10:00 am, Tuesday, September 9th, at Malloy & Son Funeral Home with Revs. Pat Farnan and Sharon Ping officiating.  Burial will follow at Galveston Memorial Park in Hitchcock.

 

The family wishes to extend special thanks to Linda Garber, Mary Nelson, Sally Sosa, Joann Victor, Sharon Ping, Dr. Maurice Willis and Chemo nurses Ron, Rosie, Jennifer, Stella and Rene'.

 

Pallbearers will be Johnny Lidstone, Mike McKinney, Lee Rhame Jr., David Flores, Douglas Bekkema, Keven Garber, and Lee Rhame Sr.

 

Honorary pallbearers will be Anthony Garber, Eddy Shoemaker, John Gonzales, Joe Moffitt, Jr., Steven Moffitt, Merle Lidstone, and Brett Hopkins.

 

Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society, the Mystic Krewe of Aquarius, or to the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie # 48.
